FAQ
Why are using shock collars, prong collars, etc. damaging for a dog?
These types of collars are meant to cause pain and instill fear in order to teach a dog not to do something. This is destructive not only emotionally, but physically as well. A dog's neck is a very sensitive part of their body. By using these damaging types of collars, the thyroid can be affected, causing hormone imbalances as well as potential damage to their skin or muscles. Emotionally, these collars may cause a dog to be in a higher state of pain and / or fear. With time, new behavioral issues may arise from this such as acting reactively on lead, fear of people or other dogs, and aggression.
Why is puppy training important?
In both the group puppy class and in-home puppy training, we will cover not only basic behaviors, but we also cover socialization as well. Socialization is getting your puppy comfortable with many different sounds, situations, and environments. Socialization is crucial because when implemented at the correct age, this helps prevent unwanted behaviors into your pup's adult years. It also helps to ensure your pup's emotional well-being into adulthood. This helps your pup to be confident, healthy, and happy. Training paired with socialization lays the foundation for a positive bond between you and your pup.
What can I expect in a group class setting?
Depending on the class, roughly three behaviors will be taught during each session. There is always time for questions during the training class. Also, a recap of what was taught in the session as well as the next steps in training will be provided.
What are the benefits of In-Home puppy training?
Being one-on-one, this allows for a more personalized training. Also, the puppy is able to be trained in its own environment. This limits distractions and helps the puppy to feel more relaxed, focused, and confident.
Why are enrichment toys important?
Enrichment toys reduce boredom, relieve stress, and get your dog problem-solving. When paired with physical exercise, this allows for a more relaxed and content pup. Check out my resource page for enrichment toy ideas!
